The FHHS band program never rests! Once marching season ends, the calendar fills with various concert band clinics at different local and regional sites, targeted at the top students in area band programs. These clinics, often by audition or nomination, allow students to interact with other talented students and fine conductors in a new and exciting setting. Clinics often last two to three days, which is the amount of time the ensemble has to put a concert together.
Forest Hills has taken advantage of these opportunities and has been fortunate to have a number of fine musicians representing our school at various events. Jacob Hinson, WJ Moretz, Kaitlyn Osborn and Kevin Sweatt were selected for the Winthrop University Honors Band Clinic in Rock Hill in November. In January, WJ Moretz participated in the South Central All District Band.
February began with the Union All County Band, which included Erika Baker, Shanice Farara, Kerstyn Helms, Sarah Helms, Jacob Hinson, Aaron Huey, Megan Huggins, Andrew Latta, Malcolm Lotharp, WJ Moretz, Qua McGriff, Tristan Mull, Kaitlyn Osborn, Laquan Sander, Kevin Sweatt, and James Vogelsang. Invited to participate in the University of South Carolina Band Clinic were Jacob Hinson, Andrew Latta, WJ Moretz, Tristan Mull, Kaitlyn Osborn, Kevin Sweatt and James Vogelsang.
Forest Hills is also one of the few band programs in the area to take part in the Western Regional Orchestra Clinic. James Vogelsang was selected for the Honors Orchestra, which will perform in Boone in March. Congratulations to everyone who has represented Forest Hills in each of these events.
